About Fear in Dust
Fear in Dust is a forthcoming free indie horror poetry journal that will be released quarterly in themed issues consisting of 6-12 poems each.
The inaugural issue is targeted for Summer of 2026 (publishing mid July) and is currently open for submissions (see guidelines on this page).

The initial issue of Fear in Dust is targeted for release mid July 2026. Please check back later - or even better, submit your work for consideration!
Each issue will be published online and available for viewing at this location.
Fear in Dust Scope:
- Horror poetry with a specific focus on the unsettling while targeting a general audience with content appropriate for all ages
- Open to all poetry forms
- Single page length or less preferred
Outside Our Scope:
- Harmful stereotypes or gratuitous content without artistic purpose
- Abstraction without traction
- AI generated or assisted writing
Submission Guidelines:
- We are a free journal published out of a passion for horror poetry and unfortunately are not able to offer payment for work at this time
- Submit 1 poem of no more than 60 lines
- We prefer work that fits on 1 printed page but will consider up to 2 pages
- No previously published poems (online or in print)
- Simultaneous submissions allowed (please notify promptly if work is accepted elsewhere)
- Submit through email addressed to "fear_submission (at) davidhershhorn (dot) com"
- Subject line should contain "[Fear in Dust Theme Call] - [Title] - [Author Name]"
- Message body should contain 1-2 sentence bio and an affirmation that no AI was used in the writing process
- Please include submitted work as a single .doc, .docx, or .pdf file attachment in standard Shunn manuscript form
- We endeavor to review and respond to all work within 30 days of acknowledged receipt, inquiries are welcome after that period
Rights:
- Upon acceptance and confirmation of the same, Fear in Dust will acquire first North American serial and first online rights. All rights revert to the author upon publication, with acknowledgement of Fear in Dust as the original publisher.
